Free house Insulation:
No more hot air
Nobody argues that climate change isn't real anymore, but have you noticed, the real pressure to do something about it seems to come from you and me!
It was one woman's campaign to turn her home town into a plastic bag-free zone that recently shamed the government into some kind of token action. It was the ordinary men and women behind the climate camp at Heathrow who are making more sense than government on the madness of expanding air travel.
Well, I'm with them – less talk, more action. I intend to roll out a massive programme to give free insulation to every home in London.
Unbelievably, almost half of the capital's carbon dioxide emissions come from our poorly insulated homes, so one simple programme like this will not only have a really beneficial effect on the climate, it will help a lot of Londoners who are struggling to pay rising fuel bills.
And it's so often people on low incomes in older, more run-down housing that need this kind of help most. They can't afford the central heating on all the time or to put double-glazing in everywhere so, even though they can ill afford it, they spend more of their income than the better off, on just keeping warm.
Free house insulation is good news for everyone – planet and people. If you want to know how I'd pay for this, ask me!
